This Strat neck was having a chronic problem of the screws slipping at the neck joint. In this picture you can see the dowel used to give the screws some fresh grip were slipping out themselves. This would lead to trouble with staying in tune, inconsistent intonation of the instrument, and string spacing / playabilty issues. |
To keep the screws from stripping the new dowels I made hand-carved maple dowels with the grain running the same direction as the neck. I also used a few woodworking tricks to help the gluing process, maple is very difficult to glue well. |
Here is the Strat with the neck re-aligned and securely bolted in the correct position. The guitar also received a fret dress, a new bone nut and a set-up. This guitar is a workhorse, and now it's ready to go back on stage, or to the studio. |
Here's another picture of this gorgeous guitar ready to go. |
